Aveon Pledge

At Aveon Air, we believe that everyone can and should work toward ending domestic violence + can and should work toward supporting the skilled trades. As our founder continues to recover from strangulation and continues to pay the survival tax, taking our pledge simply involves a promise you make to yourself.

For anyone committed to ending domestic violence + promoting skilled trades:

  • I promise to spread Awareness about domestic violence & the danger of strangulation + the value of the skilled trades

  • I promise to support Advocacy efforts that support victims and responders + efforts that support students and tradespeople

  • I promise to promote Education for victims and responders + members of the skilled trades

For HVAC + other professionals who own NIR Cameras or other thermal imaging tools:

  • I promise to Volunteer as a community contact for DV survivors for the purpose of lending my available thermal imaging tools to those seeking to document proof of this lethal form of violence. I understand that strangulation often leaves no visible marks, and am committed to supporting those who were not provided with this necessary service. I believe every strangulation survivor deserves access to crucial and timely injury photography. I understand that strangulation is a gendered form of violence, with the overwhelming majority of victims being female and perpetrators being male, and recognize that many survivors will need to borrow thermal imaging equipment and use it in a secure and private location. I am willing to allow other community volunteers to transport and operate my tools when and if they are available for use.

THERMAL IMAGING SAVES LIVES

Despite the lingering terror it can inflict on victims, strangulation, even in fatal cases, often does not leave a visible mark. In fact, researchers report that only half of strangulation victims have visible injuries, and only 15% have injuries that can be photographed. According to Gael Strack, co-founder of the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention, “Our original study…proved it—most victims of strangulation WILL NOT HAVE VISIBLE EXTERNAL INJURIES and will not understand the danger. The lack of injuries and the lack of training caused the criminal justice system to minimize strangulation. We failed victims. But now we know—NONFATAL STRANGULATION CASES ARE LETHAL and have serious immediate and long-term health consequences.” - Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention
